So "The Godfather" is coming to video game consoles later this year. PS2, Xbox. But no Gamecube. Why do the Gamecube users get no love? I need to go buy a PS2, or maybe an Xbox, so I can play "Knights of the Old Republic."
Here's the latest news. ******************************************************************************* LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - James Caan and Robert Duvall have joined the late Marlon Brando in providing voice acting and likenesses for Electronic Arts' "The Godfather" video game.
Caan and Duvall, who reprise their respective roles as Sonny Corleone and consigliere Tom Hagen from the film, also were involved in the development of the game and are scheduled to attend its premiere unveiling of the game in New York's Little Italy on Feb. 10.
The video game, which draws inspiration from both Mario Puzo's book and Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 movie, is scheduled for release in the fall.
Before his death last July, Brando granted EA the rights to use his likeness, and he recorded voice-overs that virtually reprised his Academy Award-winning role as the titular Don Vito Corleone. EA also secured the rights to the Grammy-winning music Nino Rota composed for the movie and its soundtrack.
"Authenticity is the key," said David DeMartini, executive producer for the high-profile game title. "James Caan and Robert Duvall were there when the original 'Godfather' movie was filmed, and there is no substitute for that. Along with Marlon Brando, they are some of the most respected actors in Hollywood and bring tremendous star power to 'The Godfather' game."
The game will allow players to create their own mob character and work their way up the criminal chain from petty theft to drive-bys and extortion to control of the Corleone family in a virtual New York spanning 1945-55.
Players will use their powers of loyalty and fear to earn respect through interactions with characters in the world, where intimidation and negotiation are key to success. Decisions made by the player in the game will have lasting consequences, just as it was in the mob underworld featured in "The Godfather" fiction.
"'The Godfather' movies raised the standard for cinematic achievement with their high level of drama and intense storytelling, and in fall 2005 gamers will be able to experience that dangerous ... world of 'The Godfather' for themselves," said DeMartini, who is overseeing development of the game at EA's Redwood Shores, Calif., studio.

I think this game is going to be badass. Too bad they couldn't get Al Pacino. But James Cann AND Robert Duvall? Yeh. On a side note, when I first heard about this a few weeks ago, I told my brother. An avid gamer, he said the same thing he always does when I tell him they are making a video game from a movie "Yeah, but what would you DO?" I told him that you would probably work your way up in the organization. Guess I was right. Heh.Current Mood: Stoked for this game. Current Music: Henry Mancini - "Love Theme from "The Godfather""

Kate Bosworth and Orlando Bloom have broken up.
I feel bad for Kate as it says that OrlanDO'H ended the relationship. Kate Bosworth is beautiful, and she seems nice. Why would you want to break up with her. Unless you are a dumbass? And I don't care what anybody says, I liked "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton."
The Char is here for you Kate.
Yeah, I'll shut up now. |
Ok. Last night I bit the bullet and went to the library. I used to love going to the library but I don't go much anymore because I don't have as much time as I would like to just sit around and read books. I buy books now so I can read them without having the prospect of a fine looming over me.
I checked out "The Complete War of the Worlds." Since Cruise and Spielberg have a new movie coming out, I thought I would get up to speed on it and read the book and listen to the radio play that, for those who don't know, caused mass hysteria when it originally aired on the "Mercury Theatre of the Air" on October 30, 1938. Performed by Orson Welles, they adapted H.G. Wells book into a radio play that was performed as a series of news updates that interupted "regular programming." Long story short, Martians land in Grover's Mill N.J., wipe out all of humanity on the eastern seaboard in less than an hour.
It was way too quiet in my apartment when the radio show was over, so I had to turn the T.V. on.
What is interesting, is that according to the book that the CD comes with, the "MTOTA" only had about a 3.6 rating, compared to their competitors 34. Yet because of the way they broadcast it, CBS (the stations/affiliates that aired the program) ended up freaking out millions of people.
Now THAT'S good programming. Something that "reality shows" will never be able to pull off. |
There's not much I can say about this except....HELL YEAH I'M THERE. The original and the best.

Michael J. Fox is one of my idols. Possibly my biggest idol. So it is about DAMN time that "Family Ties" is coming to DVD. For those of you who are uninitiated, "Family Ties" is the series that launched McFly's career. Created by "Spin City" creator Gary David Goldberg. It is one of my all time favorite television shows. Here is the news from tvshowsondvd.com: ************************************************************************ That's right, Alex P. Keaton fans! Family Ties - the "must-see" NBC series starring Michael Gross, Meredith Baxter Birney, Justine Bateman, Tina Yothers, and soon-to-be-megastar Michael J. Fox - is coming to DVD!
Paramount has revealed that the first season of this show is coming to DVD sometime in the first half of 2005. The entire first season - 22 half-hour episodes - are planned to go into this box set.
This is early info, and the studio hasn't even tied down a specific month, much less a date, for this title. We're pretty excited here, though, and we'll be sure to update you with more info just as soon as we can. This is the first round of news about Paramount's ambitious plans for next year's TV-on-DVD slate. You think Oprah's got a few surprises in her? Wait until you hear more about Paramount's plans! We'll be revealing more in the weeks and months to come, so stay tuned. ************************************************************************
It's About Time.
Also. That 70's Show Season Two drops on April 19. Here is news, also from www.tvshowsondvd.com ************************************************************************ English Surround Sound and 4x3 Video are what you'll see for all 598 minutes of show. List price is $49.98 in the USA and $69.98 in Canada. Here's what you get for that much bread:
Disc 1: Garage Sale / Red's Last Day / The Velvet Rope / Laurie and the Professor / Halloween / Vanstock / I Love Cake
Disc 2: Sleepover / Eric Gets Suspended / Red's Birthday / Laurie Moves Out / Eric's Stash / Hunting / Red Gets A Job
Disc 3 : Burning Down The House / The First Time / Afterglow / Kitty and Eric's Night Out / Parents Find Out / Kiss Of Death / Kelso's Serenade
Disc 4: Jackie Moves On / Holy Crap! / Red Fired Up / Cat Fight Club / Moon Over Point Place (Part 1)
Bonus Material: Audio Commentaries (details to be announced) Episode promos for every episode, matched up to the discs they are on Behind the Scenes: Kelso's Serenade Featurette (Disc 3) Behind the Scenes: Jackie Moves On Featurette (Disc 4) Behind the Scenes: Holy Crap! Featurette (Disc 4) Behind the Scenes: Red Fired Up Featurette (Disc 4) Behind the Scenes: Cat Fight Club Featurette (Disc 4) Behind the Scenes: Moon Over Point Place (Part 1) Featurette (Disc 4) Checkpoint Music Video (Disc 4) That 70's Show Season 2 Overview (Disc 4)
Cover art is still being hand-rolled in the "circle", man, so stay tuned and we'll bring that to you just as soon as distributor Fox Home Video makes it available. ************************************************************************ It would be nice if the commentary for the shows had some of the cast on it. If they could wrangle all the gang (minus Red and Kitty) that would be awesome. It would be cool to have an "in character" commentary. Maybe they do the "360 degree circle" with the episode playing in the middle of the screen, like, you just see their heads, and their torsos are taken up by the episode. That would be cool.

| » American Dad - My Review |
One of the perks at working at a newspaper is that you get to sometimes see TV shows before they actually premiere. I have been anxiously awaiting Seth Macfarlane's (the creator of and several voices on "Family Guy") new television show about...well, here is the info from the official "American Dad" blog on Fox. ************************************************************************** AMERICAN DAD, from “Family Guy” creator SETH MacFARLANE, is the animated story of STAN SMITH, who works for the CIA and is constantly on the alert for terrorist activity. Stan will go to extremes to protect his beloved America from harm – as evidenced by the terror-alert color code on his fridge, and his frequent knee-jerk reaction of shooting holes in the toaster whenever the toast pops up. In addition to Stan’s wife and teenage children, the Smith household has two rather unconventional members. There’s ROGER, the sarcastic space alien Stan rescued from Area 51 who deeply resents the fact that he’s not allowed to leave the house, and KLAUS, a lascivious, German-speaking goldfish – the result of a CIA experiment gone seriously wrong.
The task for this family of radically different personalities is to continue to love each other in a world that seems increasingly stressful. And with a guy like Stan leading the way, it’s bound to be one heck of a ride.
AMERICAN DAD is written and executive-produced by SETH MacFARLANE, the two-time Emmy-winning creator and star of the FOX animated comedy “Family Guy,” with MIKE BARKER and MATT WEITZMAN, writers of some of the most memorable “Family Guy” episodes. ************************************************************************** I was able to watch the pilot episode and I have to say.....IT RULES! As a huge fan of Seth Macfarlane, but knowing how sometimes people try to recapture the success of a series they have had in the past, and failing miserably, I had lukewarm expectations for "American Dad" at best. My expectations were surpassed BIG TIME. I think the breakout character is going to be Roger, the overweight space alien who lives with the Smith's. The voice of Stan is not quite Peter Griffin and not quite Brian. It's a completely new character which is good. As is Roger (both characters are voiced by Seth Macfarlane).
I want you all to be surprised, so I'll only give you a little hint of what we can expect from "American Dad". Stan's son Steve has a problem meeting girls, so Stan kidnaps Hilary Duff.
Good times.
Next up; THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF "FAMILY GUY"!

I have come up with new names for myself in an attempt to cash in on the hip-hop/gangsta music craze:
1. Snoop Char (S.N.Double O. P to the Char.) 2. LudaChar 3. Lil' Char 4. UshChar
I never considered myself the type to be thumpin hip-hop on my CD player, but since I hang out with my brother a lot at the roller rink he works at, I've been exposed to more than Van Halen, Sammy and Bon Jovi. Snoop Dogg is my boy.

| » The Godfather Returns Part II |
Ok.
I was wrong.
Big time.
My appologies Mr. Winegardner.
This is actually an ok book. The writing style is stil "eh" at best, but at times, you can almost BARELY see traces of Mario Puzo. I've found myself getting so caught up that I sometimes thought I was reading a new Puzo novel. I have one issue though. Winegardner has used the word, and variations thereof "penis" about ten times. I'm on page 145. That's way too much. "This guy has a penis head, he looks like a penis, etc, etc etc. Plus the obligatory references to J. Edgar Hoover (the book takes place in 1955) propel the book to having a level of unneeded vulgarity. Even for "The Godfather." He also goes a little heavy on the italian. "Soldato" (soldier), and various Sicilian slangs, etc. Almost like he's trying to prove he's up to the task of filling Puzo's Italian shoes.
The character of Michael Corleone, so far is ruthless and cold, so much so that he told Johnny Fontane "What you do is of no concern to me, get out of my sight." Dude. Mike had too much sugar this morning. I like this new Michael.
Fredo is annoying as hell. I'm getting tired of him already.
Tom Hagen is still my main man. Kick some ass Tom.
There is much less about Kay this time then there was in "The Godfather", at least it seems that way. This is good. Kay is cool, but too much Kay is bad Kay.
The subplot with Sonny's daughters Francesca and Kathy is actually pretty cool. Probably cause I went to college and I kinda like reading about the collegiate atmosphere. I actually like the character of Francesca, maybe I'm just a horn dog I don't know. Kathy seems like a slut. A good-hearted Corleone slut, but still a slut. I bet she gets into trouble before the book ends.
Only passing references to Connie Corleone. Haven't really missed her.
There's more Clemenza since they offed Tessio. Tessio was a pain in the ass. I'm glad he dead. I'm not digging this "Pete" Clemenza stuff though. It's either PETER or just Clemenza. I would prefer just Clemenza.
More as it comes, and as I continue the book. I'm officially "into" it now.

| » The Godfather Returns |
I've started reading this, well, let's just call it a "predicted travesty of a Corleone story". First of all, the author's name is Mark Winegardner, and as my mother said "they got a Jew to write the "Godfather?" Now she's not anti-semitic or anything, just that the Godfather is a heavy Italian story, and Mario Puzo was an italian. I think that that gave it some of its authenticity. And now, we have this Jew (again, no offense, he's not Italian is what I'm saying) dedicating the book to "alla mi familiga". Um. No.
The writing style is "eh" at best, I have a feeling there is going to be too much Johnny Fontane and not enough Michael and Kay, and I think I'm gonna get sick of Fredo and the little "oh by the way, I'm gay, but don't tell no one" subplot REAL fast.
I'll let you know as I get deeper into the book. I'm on page 55 right now.

OK. Yet another boring "poll" of sorts. How many of yall out there like to read books? Books are fun come on. CAUSE KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!!!!! (Family Guy reference). Do any of you guys have a favorite literary character? Here are a few of mine.
1. Jason Bourne 2. Michael Corleone 3. James Bond (Ian Fleming's James Bond, NOT the abomination that John Gardner turned the character into)
Name and town (3x) if you wish to opine.

| » Favorite Song? |
What is your favorite song? Or songs? What songs give you hope, make you happy, make you feel good, make you remember things from the past, etc. etc.
Here are some of my favorites in no particular order, well, not exactly favorites, but songs that put me in a good mood.
1. Bon Jovi - It's My Life 2. Van Halen - Dreams (Sammy Hagar kickes Diamond Dave's ass any day of the week) 3. Richie Sambora - Ballad of Youth 4. Van Halen - When It's Love 5. Sammy Hagar - I'll Fall In Love Again 6. U2 - Vertigo
I find myself kinda enjoying a lot of the pop songs out there. Some of Ashlee Simpson's stuff is ok. I'm REALLY ashamed to admit this, but I like Hilary Duff's song "Fly." If you play Ryan Cabrera in front of me though, I'll kill you where you stand. I used to like Maroon 5 until the 3,762th time they played "She Will Be Loved" on the radio in the same hour. Ok, I want to listen to some new bands, do you guys have any suggestions? As long as it's not death metal. I pretty much like everything. My cousin had the new Lil Jon CD in the car the other day and I thought it kicked some serious ass.
Bring on the suggestions folks.

| » A Clarification... |
I want clarify the bitter, angry post I wrote yesterday. My point was that, I'm one of those people who can't rest if someone close to them is upset, even my new friends, if they are upset or feeling bad, I make it my mission to make them feel better. It seems like sometimes I'm just a shoulder to cry on to the ladies, and then when they have no more use for me, they go back to their big, huge, steroid induced boyfriends, who only hurt them AGAIN. I feel like Peter Parker sometimes. Always cheering people up, but when I ask a girl to hang out, they're "umm...studying...late". When's it gon be my time?
Ok, NOW I feel better.

For those of you who don't know, "Miami Herald" Humor Columnist Dave Barry is retiring. At least for now. Read the column here:
www.davebarry.com. Go to the news section.
Dave Barry is the man who inspired me to become a humor columnist. Whether or not that will actually come to fruition remains to be seen. I wrote humor in high school for the paper, and in college for the paper. I hope to continue professionally. I probably would have taken a different path if I hadn't read "Dave Barry Talks Back" freshman year of high school.
I had the honor and privilege of meeting Dave in on November 20, 2002 when he came to Albuquerque to give a talk at the University of New Mexico entitled "Both Red and Green Chile on the Same Burrito: A Bad Idea, or What?" I had the opportunity to interview him for 20 minutes. I wrote a column about the experience of meeting my hero that eventually made it onto the high school paper's webpage. I sent a copy to Dave and I still have the email he sent me.
Hey Charlie, How come you left out the part where I called you a dumb shit? No really, it was very funny. Way to go! Your fellow humor writer, Dave Barry.
He had called me a dumb shit during the interview because I made a point about one of his novels, he corrected me, and I felt stupid.
If I can somehow dig up the column, I'll post it here.
I don't have a lot of heroes in my life, it makes me proud that I can call Dave Barry one. He is the first person who, albeit indirectly, gave me some direction at a time whenI needed it most.
I'll miss the columns every week Dave.
Thanks for everything.
